Where We Stand Today

From where we stand today, “None of us will see gender parity in our lifetimes, and nor likely will many of our children.” That’s the latest finding of the World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report 2020, which projects that it will take 99.5 years to achieve full parity at the current pace.

We don’t know about you, but we can’t wait any longer, which is why we’re in the Equality Lounge® @ Davos this week creating global awareness of the challenges that gender gaps pose, as well as the opportunities that emerge when action is taken to close them. While no country has achieved full gender parity yet, several are taking steps to drive progress forward. Consider this:

• Of the 149 countries ranked in the report, 101 improved their scores on the 2019 index (this excludes the five new countries that have joined the ranking this year)
• A total of 35 countries have achieved gender parity in education
• In healthcare, 48 countries have achieved near-parity and 71 have closed at least 97% of the gap
