A Washington D.C. homeowner at age 23, Aunt Delores has worked to make her house a home for 70 years and counting. She did it her way, even when women weren’t allowed to buy homes by themselves, and became the first person of color on her street.

She’s teaching us a little bit of history and a lot about just how good independence looks on women of all ages—a true inspiration this #womenshistorymonth!

For every 100 men hired or promoted to a higher position, only 72 women are hired or promoted for that same role.

The numbers drop even lower for Latina and Black women. The impact of this is magnified up the corporate ladder, all the way to the top, where 75% of C-suite executives are men.

Women are earning 60% of bachelors and masters degrees, but still fall behind in being promoted to top positions. They’re even held to higher standards before and after the promotions they do land. It’s time to #ActuallyPromoteWomen.

Women don’t just deserve a seat at the table, they deserve a seat at the head of the table.

Columnist and author Kate Cohen re-works the beloved #Barbie monologue and we’re here for it. 👏 America Ferrera gave the speech about the conflicting standards that women are expected to meet. @katecohen92's version dives even deeper, directly addressing issues in the “real world”.

27 years ago, a 26-year-old Jennifer Lopez starred in the “Selena” movie. She was chosen out of more than 20,000 actors who auditioned, and her portrayal as singer Selena Quintanilla made her the first Latina to earn $1 million for a role. Director Gregory Nava explained, “It was a very long process, and a very difficult process, because we couldn’t offer the role to anybody. The family wanted to see who was going to play their daughter.”

He shared from the auditions, “When everybody else danced, they danced like themselves. Jennifer’s a great dancer, but she was the one who didn’t dance like herself. She had studied the tapes of Selena dancing and she used her talent as an actress and her dancing ability to dance exactly like Selena and imitate her movements.”

She was cast and paved the way for Latinas who followed! #WomensHistoryMonth

A United Airlines flight from Newark to Sarasota included an all-female flight crew! The scheduling happened organically, but during Women’s History Month, the team took the time to celebrate the special moment. The flight was headed up by Captain Gabrielle Harding — the second Black woman Line Check Pilot in the company’s history. Only 7% of pilots globally are women and even less are women of color.

This is a step in the right direction for aviation—and we can certainly get on board with that!
