Dads are spending more, intentional time with their children than past generations. And it’s no surprise that a father’s presence and involvement directly affects a child cognitively, emotionally, socially, and behaviorally.

Some positive findings:

➡️ 97% of dads today are changing diapers compared to 60% in a 1982 study
➡️ Between 1989 and 2014, there has been a 70% increase in the number of stay-at-home dads
➡️ Since the 90s, the number of dads taking paternity leave has quadrupled
➡️ Today’s dads are spending 3X more time with their kids than they did 50 years ago
➡️ They’re also spending triple the amount of time caring for their children than dads did in 1965

A new study found that women only accounted for 28% of main characters in film in 2023 — a 5% decrease from 2022. And the ratio of speaking lines between men and women still remains unbalanced: women accounted for 35% of all speaking characters in 2023, while men had 65%.

Not only are women’s lines limited but the actual #representation of women on screen is still vastly outnumbered by men — 77% of films featured more male than female characters and only 18% of films had more female than male characters. Of those female speaking characters, 54.7% were white, 16.7% were Black, 7.6% were Latina and 6.7% were Asian.

Known as the “Cholitas Escaladoras,” a group of 11 Aymara Indigenous women from Bolivia climbed Huayna Potosí, the highest mountain near La Paz. Many were skeptical but they forged on in their traditional pollera skirts.

They continued to climb together, scaling five mountains before reaching the highest peak in South America, which is captured in the documentary film “Cholitas.” The women support one another through the challenging climbs and share in the celebrations and rituals at the top.

But why the elaborate skirts? It represents their heritage as Indigenous people, and although it makes them more vulnerable to discrimination in Bolivia, wearing them to climb sends a strong message that they’re worthy of respect. Not to mention, they’ve inspired all-women adventure groups around the world.

Women are more likely to make friends at work than men, and according to 75% of women polled, those friendships don’t only exist between 9-5.

Women are more likely to form close social bonds with other women at work, confide in them, and take their friendship out into the real world. Why is this? It’s not totally surprising because women are naturally motivated to seek organizations and communities that foster genuine connections like run clubs, book clubs, and more.

Another theory is that women tend to crave collaboration more than men. Whatever the reason, these bonds are beneficial to the workplace as a whole. Those who establish friendships at work are generally happier, more productive, more engaged, and more loyal to the company. And workplaces that create a culture that allow team members to really get to know one another have a better chance at helping their employees be innovative, avoid burnout, and feel motivated to do great work.
